La Côte des Basques, Biarritz - France (Friday, July 11, 2009) - The waiting period of the 2009 Roxy ASP Women's World Longboard Championships started freiday in Biarritz, small surf in the two foot (0.5 meter) range forcing contest officials to postpone the competition kick-off. Several calls were made in order to assess conditions throughout the day but the Roxy Jam contest director Philippe Malvaux eventually decided to give the world's best 32 female longboarders a day-off.

"Today is really too small to start Round 1 and the forecast is promising," Malvaux said. "With the new format and sudden-death from Round 1, the start of the event is crucial and the four-day waiting period allows us to wait until tomorrow to get things going."

The first round of competition will feature sixteen duels with event favorites taking on outsiders in direct elimination battles. Defending champion and reigning ASP Women's World Longboard champion Joy Monahan (HAW) will surf in Heat 8 when competition commences, the Hawaiian leader facing fellow American surfer Summer Romero (USA) for her start.

In spite of this the girls started an free-session and had some fun. The famous photographer Sylvain Cazenave made some nice shoots and the result are some funny pictures. Watch it!
